Long time modder (from the Duke Nukem / Doom days) but probably best known for being a lead dev on the Battlefield Pirates 2 mod for BF2. He started playing MP games when he moved to Europe about 10 years ago, playing BF1942 with the Wolf guys who had a crew of ex-pats playing on servers in Holland. He later joined the -=4th=- when he came home to the States, and eventually was put in charge of organizing the team for competing in various TWL leagues for BF2. That spawned a deeper interest in mapping and learning his way around all these modelling programs in order to make better practice maps for the 2v2 armor and heli ladders.
Eventually, he decided to stop playing online so much and jumped feet first into the modding scene, helping lead a small team of really talented guys do a full conversion of BF2 into a light-hearted 18th century swashbuckling mod called BF Pirates 2 about 2 years ago. While short lived, he’ll always be proud of the work they accomplished on that project! Back then he had crossed paths with a few guys behind the scenes here at Plastic Piranha so he was pretty geeked when they asked if he’d be interested in turning his attention to the Unreal engine this time around. He’s got a well rounded set of skills, so they gave him free reign to start knocking out as much cool shit as he can dream up. He’s spend most of his time lately developing the Sewers map, getting our weapons in-game and making custom material shaders, but you can just as easily find him hanging out in chat or on the forums helping folks from the community out with their own custom projects. The handle has nothing to do with birds btw … It comes from his time at MIT where he decided to drop the corporate attire for leather bondage pants, combat boots and a white half-(mo)hawk (sometimes called faux hawk) so he could tell the Harvard pricks where they could stick it with authority, laughing as they turned tail and fled. “Hey – d’you see that dude with the half-hawk?” Well, somebody had to do it… >:)
After his schooling in sweden he joined the Swedish army as a General Purpose Machine Gunner in the swedish special forces anti sabotage unit. After the mandatory time in the army he volonteered for one more year as well as a 10 year contract similar to the army reserve. He recruited for another army but during the recruiting period he realized that it was not for him so he went back home. He took a couple years figuring out what he wanted to do and worked at a special sport school teaching snowboard, mountain climbing and scuba diving. In the evenings he worked as a bartender. Finally realized that it was not something he could do forever so he went back to school and studied programming and computer science. Once done he started my own company PiG Productions that he was successfully running for 3 years until he was tricked into the automotive industry.
He joined a swedish company that was starting up as a supplier of intelligent all wheel drive as an embedded systems programmer. In 2003 he moved to Usa for the same company as a control software and Vehicle Dynamics engineer (the car manufacturer tells him how the car should behave and he programs the car to act that way regarding security and performance) He’s a fan of Tactical Realism (mixing reality with fun-to-play), probably because he’s too old to stand a chance in regular run and gun play. He was not a fan of people getting kicked and banned on TR servers so he wrote a mod for call of duty that would force the rules and thereby no need to kick players not following them.
TRM joined a new mod that started a couple years later called OpenWarfare. It was used by mutiple leagues etc and he stayed for quite some time until the game developers suddenly said F*** modders, play it our way or the highway. Thats why he was very excited when he was approached by Plastic Piranha and it is still today his motivation. First Computer: Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48k Best game ever: Way of the Exploding Fist! Rick is a prior U.S. Marine, having served a few years as a Rifleman with Marine Security Forces Company overseas, he eventually move on to become a Security Contractor and then Law Enforcement Officer, his last position with the U. S. Federal Air Marshal Service.
A Gamer since the days of the Atari 2600, Rick knew nothing about computers and decided he needed to learn, so using Google, he self-taught himself the basics of computer building, modifying and overclocking, picking up some skill in modifying and producing graphic media along the way. It’s still a learning process, but he rarely depends on someone else to fix what he has broken.
Rick’s involvement in the Gaming Community started with Off Duty Gamers, a group of Veterans and Active Duty Servicemembers, as a Staff Member writing and reporting news of interest to the Community. He has served as a Technical Consultant to a variety of projects, including Rikochet in its earliest stages, and a variety of other Gaming Community outlets.
Now, he’s one of us, working with the Community Managers as the Public Relations and Media Manager for Plastic Piranha. Rick’s rather…unique background, offers a fresh perspective as we forge ahead. Plus, he’s fun to have around.

As a PC gamer, CoD series made him an addict, so he started to poke (and peek) around eXtreme mod. A few maps that noone ever liked was the pinnacle of his success. Thus, he returned to a quiet life as the web developer
